I have been having issues with AirPlay for a long time. Initially, I had the TV and connecting devices on two different subnets. Even after I moved the TV into the same subnet to reduce the complexity, AirPlay is still not working.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make Avahi/AirPlay work on Pfsense 24.03 + edition?

In most cases, the device is not even shown on the AirPlay list.

With the TV and the connecting devices in the same subnet, Avahi is no longer involved. The issue is with either the TV (likely) or the various other devices. I would check to see if there is a firmware update for the TV.

And if you use a managed Switch, check the Milticast Feature. Some Vendors need explicit activation per VLAN.

@dennypage I tracked the issue down to Sony TV having a shitty AirPlay implementation. I have another LG branded TV which works with no issue.
