I Just installed pfSense (1.2.2 and 1.2.3rc3) on a new PC with AMD CPU and NVIDIA chipset. All warks ok, but the PC doesn't halt or reboot.
When I hit the command it starts to reboot (or halt), in the screen i see the reboot (halt) process starts, uptime time appears on the screen and stops.

      Any idea how to resolve?

      Thank you!

1.make sure it is an acpi compatible motherboard (you say new but new is it?)
acpi is needed to send software commands to the mobo
        2.possible bad mobo

i just tried to install le latest snapshot and now it works…
I think thta the problem was FreeBSD. In 1.2.2 it's 7.0, in the latest is 7.2.

No. It wasn't a bad installation. Becouse I installed 1.2.2 on two different (but with same chipset) PC and do the same.

for sure it is only a software problem, reboot does not need apci. apci is only used to turn power off AFTER halt completed.

even without apci support, the system must go until it halts, even if power is not turned off.

Try running this on the console:

                  sysctl -w hw.acpi.handle_reboot=1

And then attempt a reboot. If that works, you can add that setting into /etc/sysctl.conf or /boot/loader.conf (but check the formatting expected by those files, first)

You'll need ACPI support enabled in the BIOS and in pfSense for that to work, but some rare systems require that set in order to reboot properly.

A BIOS update generally helps in this area also.

I try to exectute this command:

                    sysctl -w hw.acpi.handle_reboot=1

                    but… the pfsense reponse:

                    sysctl: unknown oid 'hw.acpi.handle_reboot

I take the same problem with Alix Board Mod: alix3d2...and still not get the machine restarted.

                    Please... help me.... :'(
