I am using the netgate 2d3 with an opt1 interface. We have two connections coming in, T1 and DSL. Since this is a setup in an uncivilized country outside the United States, the T1 is not reliable, and normally when the T1 is down, the DSL works (and vice versa). I put the DSL in OPT1 and everything works in regards to inbound routing. However, I do not know how to set up my device to tell it to use the DSL whenever the T1 connection is down.
I tried following this article but it doesn't look like it will help me, and it is a little confusing, plus it is mainly for load balancing http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/MultiWanVersion1.2

Note that when the T1 is down, the "link" is still up because it is still connected. I hope there is a way to set this up where pfsense can automatically detect when the internet no longer works on a specific connection.

      Thanks

That's doable. The best source of info is the book, it details how to set that up.  http://pfsense.org/book
