Status of pfSense CE 2.7.2
-
Just wondering what is the status of pfSense CE 2.7.2? I haven't heard anything about it for a long time. Has support been dropped? Going to be dropped?
-
Well, from what I read previously, the update "will be released when ready" is the answer we will get. The status is still 2.7.2-RELEASE.

Officially it is actively being worked on:

As you can see, it is active. As CE 2.8 was during Plus 24.3 development 108 items
and as CE 2.8 was during Plus 24.11 development 120 itemsHowever public snap shot access to any of that had been blocked for about a year.
Netgate "may" choose to remove that block at some future time. Unfortunately Netgate have elected to use their corporate customers as beta testers rather than CE home lab user. As a result pfsense CE is now only a competing product with perhaps an open source lip service benefit to Netgate.
The commercial approach Netgate has chosen means users of pfsense CE will need to evaluate other options as it is functionally EOL, even if Netgate have chosen not to announce that yet.

There was this little gem posted a few weeks back that no one seemed to notice…

Thanks all .... it appears there are no important CVEs for a home user, so I guess if it ain't broke don't need to fix it. It would be nice if someone from Netgate would confirm if there has been a status change in pfSense CE support.

@guardian johnpoz does not work for Netgate

@ahking19 OK thanks for correcting me - I thought he did.
