Will I be able to configure my 4200 rj45 LAN port to my switch's SFP+ port? If possible, is there a reason not to?

@BuckAngus Probably yes, but it will depend a bit on your switch. It may not be able to autonegotiate the speed on that port, but you will likely be able to set it to 1Gig manually. And it may require some research in order to find a compatible RJ45 module for the SFP+ port.
        What switch do you have?

The reason not to would be that an RJ45 module costs way more than an ethernet cable and it also produces quite a bit of heat, which goes into the switch.

Yup, you'll just need an RJ-45 SFP module.

However.... be aware that the igc ports on the 4200 only support auto-negotiated link speeds. They will not link with something that is set to a fixed speed with negotiation disabled.

@Gblenn - Thank you for the response.

            I went the cheap route on the switch, going with "NETGEAR 26-Port PoE Gigabit Ethernet Smart Switch (GS724TP) - Managed, 24 x 1G, 24 x PoE+ @ 190W, 2 x 1G SFP."

I've got plans for 23 ports, and 3-4 needed POE+. so i was seeing if I could make use of the SFP ports if my requirements changed.

            Thx again.

@stephenw10 - Thanks for the response. I'll keep your points in mind as I see what I can do with my first managed switch.
