Newly purchased Netgate 8300 Appliance.
-
We are encountering difficulties with the UPS setup for our Netgate 8300 Appliance. Specifically, the device restarts during power fluctuations in our building, which suggests our current UPS units may not meet the requirements.
We are currently using the APC BX1600MI-MS and APC BX2200MI-MS models, chosen based on a 500-watt power supply estimate. Despite their higher wattage rating, the issue persists.
We are also considering the possibility of an issue with the power supply itself. We have tested the setup using the two hot-swappable power supplies connected to separate UPS units, but the same issue occurred.
Could you please provide the recommended UPS specifications or any additional troubleshooting steps we should follow to resolve this?
Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated. -
Both those UPS are discontinued and both are stepped sine wave output. How old are the batteries?
Your kit will only be as reliable as the weakest link, which at the moment is the UPS.
I would consider looking for a UPS with pure sine wave output and faster transfer time given the amount of coin you already spent on the 8300.
I was not able to find the data sheet for the specific model Delta PS in the 8300, but the Delta hot swappable power supplies have active power factor correction (PFC)
There are two types of sine wave: simulated sine wave (stepped-approximated sine wave) and true/pure sine wave. Depending on which type it is, it differs vastly. A pure sine wave UPS is required for devices that use Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies, while a stepped sine wave UPS may cause these devices to shut down
Graphic to show difference between pure and stepped sine wave. Voltage and frequency are for US based systems.

Hi @elvisimprsntr,
Thank you for your reply. We are using a brand-new UPS with all-new batteries. Unfortunately, both of our current units are not pure sine wave models. I’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to UPS systems, so I really appreciate your advice. I’ll make sure to purchase the required type.
Thank you again!

A pure sine wave model is likely to cost more than one doing "stepped aproximation". That's one way to know it's likely a pure sine wave box (along with the manufacturer explicitly stating that in their specifications).
