      hi,

just looking for some advice please if possible. I recently built my 10gb ms01 along with my 10gb lan. My ISP provides and 8gb/8gb service over 10gb rj45 port. I have tested the machine locally using iperf and no issues with clients passing 9.55gb under test so that all seems ok.
Yesterday my profile was changed for the 8gb/8gb service. Download speeds are great at around 8100Mbps but upload is proving an issue and seems to be 3-5gb - I have seen other users easily getting 7/7. I just wondered if there are any settings I can check or adjust to improve the upload? - now its possible it could also be the service but I wont know that until later in the week as an engineer will have to come out and test the service with their tester but from what I can tell the profile is now correct at the ont but its possible there could be an issue....

anything I can change or check in pfsense that might help with upload?
this is just straight forward pfsense - no packet inspection etc.
      10gb pc speedtest

      Thanks very much

@zennb1 Have you tried using the speedtest application instead of the web service? https://www.speedtest.net/apps/desktop

I have never been able to get anything better than 4+ using the web version. You probably have a more powerful PC than I do...

@zennb1 Aha, ok so that is how you get above 8... I don't see that there is anything in pfsense that would limit your upload speed though, at least not in a default setup... What HW are you using for you pfsense?

You could test towards a public iperf server instead of ookla just to see if you get any different results.

              @Gblenn thanks for your reply.
              I am using an i5 ms01, 16gb ram 1 x x710 onboard sfp (lan) and 1 x x540 nic rj45 for the wan as the ISP gives 8gb over a 10gb rj45 connection.
I just dragged my i9 down to the garage and setup an additonal interface on pfsense so it by passes the switch (zyxel xs-1930 10gb) just to take the switch out of the loop. managed 5.5gb on the ookla app bypassing the switch which isnt much different with the switch. I have seen others with getting 7/7 on the same provider.
              thanks for that link
              windows - iperf3 -c speedtest.serverius.net -p 5002 -P 24 -4 -R
gives this but Im unsure if its good or bad result
              [SUM] 0.00-10.03 sec 9.41 GBytes 8.06 Gbits/sec 23950 sender
              [SUM] 0.00-10.01 sec 9.33 GBytes 8.01 Gbits/sec receiver

              iperf3 -c speedtest.serverius.net -p 5002 -P 24 -4
              [SUM] 0.00-10.01 sec 7.02 GBytes 6.03 Gbits/sec sender
              [SUM] 0.00-10.03 sec 6.99 GBytes 5.98 Gbits/sec receiver

any thoughts, also tried ubuntu and nothin gin it results wise

              thanks

@zennb1 That hw shouldn't have any trouble keeping up. I have an i5-11400, running pfsense virtualized using x520 NICs and get >8Gbit even with Suricata running (Legacy mode).

You seem to get much more symmetrical results using iperf so I don't think it's anything on your side. And the tests you are showing is really good... At least the first one giving 8+ speed which is max what you have...

Perhaps you should do some more tests with speedtest app at different times during the day to see if it differs. I can't think of anything in the setup that may improve those numbers...

@zennb1 Cool, now all you have to do is try to figure out a use case for 8 Gbit.
I can't say I have found any clear live use for my 10G connection... The best I think I have seen from Steam or Battle.net is 2.5-3 Gbit, but most of the time it's below 2...

For consumers, I think 2.5 may be a good top tier option, also because 2.5G switches and devices are so much more affordable.
