Just switch to a newer version of Xfinity gateway, put it into bridge mode. Internet is working fine but pfsense shows the wan up to be 73.170.240.1 as the address but the actual WAN up is 73.170.240.xxx

Whatsmyip shows the right public IP but sense of sense doesn't know this my port forwards doesn't work

When I plug the gateway into my laptop it also gets all the proper IP.

@cheapie408 huh? Where are you seeing that wan is your gateway IP.. If you look on the gateway widget on the dashboard, that is going to show you your gateway.

Clearly if you can get to the internet, pfsense knows what its wan IP is - and its not the same as your gateway.. If it was nothing would work.

edit: just looked - and your talking to the forum with IPv6, so can't really validate what your .xxx IP is.. But if pfsense interface has the same IPv4 as your gateway - then no IPv4 never going to work.

@johnpoz thanks for the reply. I got the issue resolved by resetting ally switches.

It's still weird to me as the modem is showing a different wan address than what's reported in pfsense.

@cheapie408 where in your "modem" which doesn't have a public IP.. You mean your gateway, a modem/router combo that you put into bridge mode.. Modems don't get put into bridge mode.

And yeah its possible for them to passthru a different public IP to the client than what it has.. Many of those devices can do passthru, ie bridge mode and also still do nat for devices connected to its other ports, etc.

Have seen this a lot in business deployments of comcast/xfinity.

Rebooting switches wouldn't have anything to do with it - other then the interfaces would cycle if you rebooted the switch, do you have a switch between your isp device and pfsense wan?
