      Hello,

Quite a while ago, I purchased a SG-1000 firewall-router from Netgate, running natively pf-sense. I configured it for home usage with the fantastic help of members of this forum. Today, it runs happily and exceeds all of my requirements (installed as a 2nd NAT behind my ISP's own device, feeding three vLANS for security) and quietly delivering, in spite of Netgate's stated limitations (memory, I believe) above the 100 Mbps mark (less than the 2,000 Mb/s overkill throughput which my my ISP Claims its fiber-device is capable of delivering to me, but ... Who cares ?).

All is well. Nevertheless, I have now in my box over 420 alerts stating that Netgate no longer maintains pf-sense for use with the tiny SG-1000.

      My SG-1000 still runs:

      22.05-RELEASE (arm)
built on Wed Jun 22 18:56:40 UTC 2022
      FreeBSD 12.3-STABLE

In spite of the fact my SG-1000 runs beautifully, I check from time to time the prices of Netgate's replacement devices and never see anyone of them selling for less than five (5) times the price I paid for the SG-1000.

      Is anything wrong ?

Should I start looking for a replacement for my SG-1000 in spite of its brilliant achievements so far ?

NOT being ready to retrofit an old windows machine to pf-sense capability and given my reluctance for over taxing my electricity bill, nor for facing regal expenses for a replacement to my SG-1000, I fell cornered.

      What should y do ?

Do I face security risks ?

      Technical risks ?

      Other risks ?

What should i dream of doing ?

Is Netgate dreaming about proposing to people like me a replacement to the SG-1000 ?

At a price which does not exceed [$50 to $100] ?

      TIA for suggestions.

@Michel-angelo There are security fixes in later versions of pfSense. You could potentially limit access from LAN to the GUI and SSH by firewall rule and mitigate that somewhat, but presumably devices will need DNS, etc. (they could maybe use external DNS servers depending on how far you want to go)

The 1100 is the closest replacement. 23.01 dropped support for the 1000: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/23-01.html#errata-known-hardware-issues

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

You should be thinking about replacing it. There have been a lot of bugs fixed since 22.05.

We have nothing planned that would sell at <$100 as far as I know. Really you would be looking at something used to fit that price range IMO.
