New Netgate 8200
-
Replaced my SG-4860 with the 8200. I'm happy with the extra performance and 10gb options but it would have been fantastic if Netgate had silk screened the interface names on the ports instead of the completely arbitrary Wan1,Wan3, Lan2, etc. ix0-3 and igc0-3 would have been far far more helpful. Guess its time to get out the label maker.

I completely agree. I never quite understood why they use such a namingscheme on a firewall that allows assigning interfaces as needed.

The interface naming/labeling is always contentious. Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time.
The main reason they are not labeled using the BSD interface names is that the 8200 is also available with TNSR where it wouldn't make sense.

@stephenw10 That makes sense - I’ve never used TNSR and didn’t realize the interface names were different. I know these aren’t supplied with printed instructions but a one pager port diagram for pfsense and tnsr would be a cool addition to the box.
