      Hello

I have a PcEngines APU-1b firewall installed with pfsense 2.5.2 - Serial Console only no VGA output

I downloaded the latest version of pfsense 2.7.2 and installed via a USB stick, the install process worked without errors.
However when the system came to reboot, the firmware boot menu appeared as normal, after which the console output / display froze…
I left running for a few minutes and eventually the web interface worked, indicating the boot process continued in the background even with the serial output frozen.

I therefore reinstalled the previous version of 2.5.2, everything worked as expected

I then tried to upgrade from the web interface within pfsense

I upgraded to 2.7.0 – after which everything worked as expected – no errors

I then upgraded to 2.7.2 – after which everything worked as expected – no errors

I would much prefer to do a clean install via USB, however I need the serial output to work after installation

Does anyone have similar experiences, and what was the solution ??

      Thank you

        Hi,

I do not own a APU1 but a APU2 and i never had any issues with the serial console.
        Just to be sure:

        1. You downloaded the 2.7.2 image from:
          Legacy Download

        2. You downloaded the file:
          pfSense-CE-memstick-serial-2.7.2-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz ?

        Nice weekend,

          Hi

I tried your sugestion and the serial console works fine !

          The only issues were...

VT100 interface shows characters instead of lines around the selection, and the menu options were slightly different

          Thank you

This depends on the settings of the application you use to connect to the serial console.

            Thank you

            You're welcome.

Hmm, so what changed? Were you using the non-serial memstick previously?
