Hmm why can't I access my Owncloud instance (or even just ping it)?

Just set up an OwnCloud instance. Just internal to the LAN, no external connections.

Via web browser I can log in fine using the IP address of the PC hosting it. But my phone (on my wifi) cannot access it. I installed a Ping app and can't ping the server from the phone.

Is there something in my pfSense config that is preventing the phone from pinging the PC? Otherwise I'm having no issues pinging from one device to another on the LAN.

How is the client that can connect to it connected to the network? Not using WiFi I assume?

I would assume that wifi clients are on a different subnet connected via a different interface in pfSense. In which case you would need firewall rules there to allow it. It could also be the owncloud host server blocking traffic from outside it's own subnet.

@stephenw10 Maybe. I tested and can ping the phone (on wifi) from the LAN but not the other way around. The phone doesn't seem to be able to ping anything on the LAN. Of course, I tested and anything on the LAN seems to be able to ping any other LAN device succesfully.

I didn't realize I needed a rule to allow wifi (which is managed by Unifi Network downstream of my pfSense router) to access other devices on the LAN?

Update: I turned off my VPN. Now, I can ping any device on my LAN from my wifi-connected phone, including the IP of the Owncloud server. But now I get an immediate "Unsuccessful authorization" on the android app. Weird thing is, I never even get to the point where I enter a username and password for the user account I have set up.

Then I stopped the app and cleared cache and storage. Now, same thing except the immediate error is "An error occurred while connecting to the server".

The dynamic Firewall log in pfSense isn't showing anything from the IP of my phone so I don't think it's getting hung up via a firewall rule.

Ok that implies you have a policy routing rule forcing traffic from wifi via the VPN. So you need a rule above that to allow traffic from wifi to the LAN subnet to bypass policy routing.

A simple diagram of how this is connected might help here.

Is the Unifi wfifi connected to different interface in pfSense?

@stephenw10 Actually I was just able to get it to work.

I logged in via my phone's web browser then switched to the app and got in just fine. Why, I have no idea, but it's working.

              Thank you for your assistance!
