I have a grandfathered Verizon hotspot unlimited plan (truly unlimited if you can get there) that I use for my backup.. 2nd WAN. (primary is Astound cable.)

The past few times that Ive had to rely on it Ive had to fight with it basically losing the battle until the primary came back up.. This week we had a 24+ hour power outage that also took out the local cable node.. Verizon should have taken over but this time I had time to diagnose it. My Nest cameras were able to connect but nothing could resolve DNS.

The cameras most likely are hard coded for DNS. Once I switched from resolver to forwarder then things were better for everything else.. (except for the fact that everyone in the area was trying to use their phones for their internet thus bring the bandwidth to about 600kbps..)

But that all said.. Has anyone else had similar experiences and is the forwarder the ultimate solution for this kind of set up? Will Verizon not pass to core DNS?

      Triggering snowflakes one by one..
