      Since yesterday I am running 24.11-RELEASE (amd64) .

Today I got this message: ^check_upgrade: "Updating repositories metadata" returned error code 1 @ 2025-03-27 13:22:20^

It can be related to the new version or to my yesterday action placing a new nic (see my previous post)

Whats ever, how should I handle this?

Yes, replacing the NIC would change your NDI. Send it to me in chat and I can check it.

          @stephenw10

          Thanks for your mail !

For information I am a retired IT-professional and my role was Security officer. My home network is infect a mini professional network.

The global structure of the network is as follow. Wan connected to pfSense and pfSense connected to a 1G-switch (=> 2,.5 G) via lagg0 and a 10G-switch connected via lagg1

At this moment the system has 7 nics:

          • 1 I219 on the motherboard in favor of the WAN
          • 2 SFP+ from an intel x520 in favor of lagg1
          • 2 10GUTP from an intel x550 in favor of lagg0
          • 2x intel I210 which were up to yesterday used for lagg0

Yesterdays action was infact removing a third I210 (which was intended as console vlan) and replacing that card witch the x550.

Perhaps I will create an extra vlan on a free I210 to use it as emergency console do not see a real need yet. I am sometimes considering to replace the old x520 card with a more modern ConnectX4 or an x710 or x810.

As you can read in my forum mail earlier today I had tons (!!) of problems replacing the x210 with the x550. I hope you did read that forum post and understand why I completely disagree with GertJan even think that the pfSense actual behavoir is not only not adequate but even a significant bigger security risc that the risc it hopes to mitigate.

Whatever attached my actual nic config

          Sincerely,

          Louis

Yes, it will definitely have changed your NDI which is why you're seeing the repo check failures.

If you send me your NDI and order number in chat I can check it.

The i210/i219 NIC uses the igb driver and the x550 NIX uses ixgbe. So if you boot the firewall with a config that contains igb0-4 assigned it will drop to the interface assign screen at the console because two of those no longer exist That's expected.
