No IP in WAN with bridge
-
for context i was running my netgate 2100 double nat for atleast year. had wireguard some port forward rules, pf blocker package going. snort alerting, pushover alerts, some custom rules to allow my xbox. I could not allow it to bridge mode because i did not have an external AP to run wifi behind the firewall. i finally got an AP and have access to Bridge mode on my isp router modem combo ARRIS surfboard dg3450a. being double nat i had no issues save a few things i wanted to accomplish in networking, certificates, email server, pbx, etc... I just switched the modem to bridge lan port 1 over to the firewall and allowed mac bridging as well for the firewall. i disabled dhcp to release the private lease on my firewall, rebooted the firewall and modem and yet i do not have a WAN ip carried over to the firewall. What have i overlooked, the firewall was reset to default config because i ran out of ideas that i had in my previous config, in default it still doesnt have a wan ip.

Check the dhcp logs. Do you see dhclient getting any replies from the ISP server?
If not then either the modem is not bridging correctly or the connection is still locked to the MAC of the old router.

@stephenw10 currently had some issues with the isp combo modem router. Had to troubleshoot it for a bit. Going to get it back to bridge mode and try again. Is an arris surfboard dg3450a. But I will check dhcp if it continues to be a problem.

By the way if anyone needs to know a hard reset for any modem or router the 30-30-30 way works perfect. Powered on hold and continue to hold reset for 30secs, unplug power while still holding reset button, wait 30 secs holding button still, plug it back in while still holding reset and wait 30 more seconds while still holding reset. Then let go and it will default all settings.

Issue was the isp router modem combo, bridge mode was trying to give private ip after initially assigning public ip. It would drop the public and then assign a private ip. I reset the modem to factory and re applied bridge mode after and seems to be wiring fine now.
