Looking to use pfsense as a router behind a Netgear CM3000 cable modem.

I think there's more to it than just connecting the WAN port to the Ethernet on the cable modem. When I hooked my Linux laptop up to the cable modem after activating it in the Xfinity app, the Ethernet light lit up, but wasn't actually connected.

Where can I figure out how this is done?

@el_ingeniero It should be pretty much that easy. Keep in mind that the cable service generally will only allow one MAC address at a time. You have to re-boot the modem when you change interfaces.

Look at the IP the cable service assigns to the device plugged into the modem. If you have an IP then you are at least connected correctly. If you have no internet then contact the cable company to find out why not.

@chpalmer so I have to reboot the modem to connect a new device to the modem Ethernet, that was one thing that wasn't happening today. Got it.
