I have a couple of these GoCoax MA2500D MOCA adapters. I have assigned them Static IPs on my LAN subnet, but I can only access the Admin Page of the adapter if I am directly plugged into the Ethernet port. If I have them on the network, I can't access them.

What gives here? How do they know if I am directly plugged in vs. accessing them over the network?

I have experienced the same thing with my screanbeam moca adapters and was assuming it had something to do with switching to KEA DHCP. I have not taken the time to test this theory though.

@cwagz I don't think it has anything to do with KEA. My Adapaters have their IP, DNS and gateway statically assigned.

Only theory I have is that somehow the traffic is being routed into the webserver via the MOCA interface and not the Ethernet port and the adapter's webserver is not listening on the MOCA interface.

Not sure how to confirm or even work around this issue iḟ it is indeed the case.

Those are just layer 2 devices though right? As long as you're in the same subnet I'd expect it to 'just work'.

Is it only the webgui? Can you ping those IPs?

@stephenw10 That is my understanding. The web GUI really has no config options other than the MOCA related frequency in use and the adapter's IP/gateway config (which can also be set via DHCP). The adapters pass VLAN tags even though they are unaware of anything related to VLANs

They do respond to ping, but only when directly connected via Ethernet. I want to setup my network monitor to periodically ping them to validate that the connection is up. Have to be able to access them first though :)

Hmm, weird. You can ping between devices connected to those adapters though? Might not be much you can do if there's no settings available. It's gui only?

@stephenw10 Yes I can ping through to devices on the other side of the link just fine. In all of my tests though, the MOCA adapter was disconnected from a Coax connection to the other adapter. I wonder if the MOCA adapter takes the web interface and icmp response down after the two adapters are connected as a security measure. I will have to check this out.

The only other thing you might would be some sort or proxy redirect the request via a device behind the adapter. But that seems like a lot of effort!

I know you said this wasn't your problem, but I had mine all set up with static reservations in DHCP and had modified them to use DHCP assignments. I was able to periodically log in and check their connection strength and whatnot without issue. At some point I needed to do a firmware update and noticed they would no longer respond to ping or bring up the webgui at the statically assigned IP. This was after switching to KEA DHCP. I had to connect to each one individually with a laptop, reset it, and flash the firmware. I then decided to set them back to DHCP and they disappeared into the void again. I haven't been able to connect to them since but assume they will be back at some point once something gets ironed out in KEA.
