Hi, I know that there has been a longer discussion about how to change the file system size of EFI volume in conjunction with pfsense update from 2.7.1 > 2.7.2. I'm running now in exactly the same problems with the upgrade from 2.7.2 > 2.8.0.

I've tried the instructions to resize the file system to fill up the whole EFI volume (200M) as described here:

      https://forum.netgate.com/topic/184661/unable-to-upgrade-from-2-7-1-to-2-7-2-unmounting-boot-efi-done-failed/23

but it looks like it is not written back to my SSD: every time I try or even do a small change on the EFI volume I find the old status after remount.

      Example:

      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: mount_msdosfs /dev/ada0p1 /mnt
      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: touch /mnt/dws
      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: ls -la /mnt/dws
      -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 0 Jun 24 20:06 /mnt/dws
      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: umount /mnt
      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: mount_msdosfs /dev/ada0p1 /mnt
      [2.7.2-RELEASE][admin@xxx]/root: ls -la /mnt/dws
ls: /mnt/dws: No such file or directory

The SMART status of the SSD is shown as "passed" in webui.

So far I had never comparable issues when doing a pfsense upgrade in the past - any ideas?

      Thank You

@dws I don't have a direct answer but if you spend much time on fixing it, it's probably easier to just format+reinstall and restore from backup (which can be done during the install).

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.
