ISC to Kea in 25.07?
-
In the latest version 25.07, among the features is that this version of pfSense Plus includes a feature complete version of Kea.
Is it as simple as switching the backend from ISC to Kea, or are there steps to take to ensure a smooth transition?
Are there any caveats, or things to make note of?
Thanks for any help, guidance and advice.

@tariqali if you hold off a bit, I will giving this a go here later this week I think, and let you know how it goes. I have multiple vlans and lots of reservations.. I have been holding off on moving to kea because I have some options I hand out, etc. And well isc works, so no rush to move to kea. Waiting until they said it had reached feature parity.

@johnpoz Thanks John, looking forward to your findings.

hey there,
in no way should this push you into going ahead! Wait for @johnpoz input (as it usually is worth waiting for ;))That said:
I updated to 25.07 a few days ago without any problems (so far). I avoided switching isc to kea dhcp before because of many problems posted here in the past...so I waited.
With 25.07's promises of a full (complete) integration of kea...well after backup and new boot-environment (to be safe) i just "pulled the switch" over to kea...waited...and waited...nope, machine did not go up in flames, in fact it seemed like nothing happend at all. Just worked. :)My lan is set up with vlans, IPv4 and v6 (no dhcpv6 though, just slaac and ra). So nothing special really...but maybe that experience gives you some hope. ;)
Everyone have a nice Sunday! -
I upgraded to 25.07 the other day, took a deep breath and moved to KEA. Went smooth..
HOWEVER I am not getting all entries from dhcp registering in dns..
I can see the kea2unbound records
"kea2unbound 54061 Record installed: "138.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. 2400 IN PTR rpi3..."
and "kea2unbound 54061 Record installed: "rpi3..... 2400 IN A 192.168.0.138"
but not entries for rpi3 in /var/unbound/dhcpleases_entries.conf nor /var/unbound/host_entries.confI do see 17 other dhcp leases that did register just fine...
I do see that /var/unbound/dhcpleases_entries.conf
is dated yesterday, and the record installed msgs are for today.... -
