Today I realized there was no flashing front panel LED indicating there's an upgrade available on my 2100. I don't recall needing to do anything to see the flashing for previous updates, like switching branches, etc. Am I misremembering this?

So I went to System->Update->System Update and switched the branch from 24.11 to 25.07.01 and after a moment the LED began flashing. But the Retrieving field showed an error: "Another instance of pfSense-upgrade is running. Please try again in a few moments."

Switching back to 24.11 did not clear the error. Changing tabs to Update Settings, then back to System Update cleared it. The upgrade LED also stopped flashing.

Running ps ax in the command prompt doesn't show anything that looks upgrade related. Anything to worry about?

Not anything to worry about. It's common to see another process running if you go from the dashboard to the upgrade page. It should clear if you refresh the page.

The upgrade available LED should be turned on when it checks and sees an update but that only runs once in 24hrs unless you manually referesh it.

Hi Stephen. That's why I posted -- the 25.07.1 update has been out for well over 24 hours and yet there was no upgrade available LED flashing. I upgraded last night so we'll see if it picks up when the next upgrade is available.
