I'm sure this is going to be super easy to answer, but I'm just looking for confirmation.

3 main devices we are dealing with:

      • Ugreen 6800 Pro with 106TB of drives, and about 64TB of data.
      • APC Smart-UPS 2200RM with network monitoring card.
      • pfSense (2.8.1) on an Optiplex SFF. (i5-4590, 4 Core, 3.3GHz, 16GB RAM)
      • All important machines are connected to the switch stack with 10Gb/s fiber or Ethernet.

Currently, I have the APC connected via USB to the NAS. The NAS sees it, and I can configure when to shut down, etc. I wanted to do this because I need to protect the 64TB of data most of all.

This leaves the pfSense device. I tried apcupsd, but couldn't get it to connect to the APC network monitoring card.

So I dropped back to NUT and connected to the IP address of the APC.
The only things I have filled in is:

      • UPS Type - Remote SNMP
      • UPS Name - Smart-UPS-2200,
      • Remote IP - 172.20.0.54
      • Extra Arguments - community=private

      Nothing else.

pfSense now sees and reads the data from the APC using the APC network card.

So my questions: is there a better way to do this (apcupsd), and understand that the data on the NAS is more important than pfSense?
With my current NUT config, and the fact that pfSense can poll the data, will pfSense automatically shut down at low battery, or do I need any modifications in my config?

Is there anything else I should add/change with my NUT config to improve operation?

      I appreciate everyone's time.

You shouldn’t need anything else. You should be good.

Some of those APC UPS network cards can be pricey, but if you have one already might as well use it.

I simply connect my UPS directly to pfSense via USB and NUT. All TrueNAS clients powered by the same UPS, poll UPS status using NUT from pfSense.

I believe NUT is available on UGreen proprietary OS.
