      See https://www.facebook.com/groups/1554270244881200/

I usually reboot my pfSense system via SSH (using Termius on iPad/iPhone), but recently I’ve noticed it no longer works. When I select option 5 and confirm with “Yes,” I do get the message that the system is rebooting, but in reality nothing happens. On the console, I see no activity or change.

This also makes me a bit cautious about rebooting the system remotely, although I haven’t had any issues rebooting through the web interface.

Just wanted to share this here for discussion…

        In what version? What hardware?

        I've never seen that.

I've seen devices that fail to reboot in that they just go to power standby and never boot back up. But they still shutdown.

Do you see anything logged when that happens? Are you logged in as admin/root in SSH?

Just tested rebooting my system via SSH (used PuTTY on Windows though), worked fine.

              Did you see FB post?
Maybe it's ssh client specific, dunno, but it's flaky :(

@chudak No, I'm not in that FB group

                  From FB:

"For our customers, we primarily use Netgate 4100, 4200, and 6100. Ever since Pfsense+ came along, however, we've repeatedly had problems with remote updates, which we never had before with other devices. It's a gamble whether the update works and the firewall is then accessible again. Of course, these problems could easily be resolved on-site, but we're never on-site. So my question is: Do you know of any better hardware where the updates work 100%? It's a shame that Netgate can't come up with anything better. We'd like to support the project by purchasing hardware, but that's no longer an option."

That seems unrelated? Where you're seeing this is not a Netgate device.

Does it reboot correctly if you choose option 5 from the local console?

I will need to test it more.
But yes I was logged as admin and yes it reboots correctly if I choose option 5 from the local console

Hmm, weird. Well definitely check the logs after trying and failing to reboot via SSH.

So far I could not reproduce it.
So will keep my eye on it.
