We have 3 Netgate, including 2 8200 and well, 2 more Netgate 6100 on the shelf as we test a UI gateway because of reboot issues like this.

Here we are with the latest update and wireguard fails to start. Lucky we have tailscale running inside each network so we can manually VPN into each location and then manually start wireguard and the gateways.

No doubt, frustrated, heavily invested into Netgate for a small business and just want reboots to work.

Backed up, restored, same issue. Reinstalled wireguard, same issue. Chat GPT says wireguard is trying to start to quickly?

      Seeing this in my logs:

Too early is more likely. If you have some other link type that takes a long time to come up at boot we have seen instances of WireGuard trying to start before that has happened, failing and then just stopping rather than retrying.

At what point during the boot are those logs from?

I see you're using pppoe. Does that connect immediately? Are you using the new module for that?

Have you always seen this issue or this new after an update?

@stephenw10 I always update and for years my gateways have been unreliable after reboot. Maybe one version was better than another? My settings have rarely changed over the years, a new NAT rule here or there. They either come up or don't, it was always a roll of a dice whether my wireguard would be working after reboot. But since this last update, it's consistent and across all my netgate boxes. Backed up my settings, restored, not better.

PPOE always comes up, so does my static connection on my other location. New or old, don't know.

I took those logs after a reboot. Happy to share more.

Yeah if you have more logs that would be helpful. Critically the ordering processes are run at boot is what counts.

after I rebooted and then manually started the gateways and wireguard service:

                  OK.

Which NIC is the PPPoE using?

Are all the WG tunnels using the PPPoE WAN?

What is the gateway that's expected to be available for these?

They are the expected remote endpoints in the WG tunnels?

@stephenw10 Swapped in Unifi gateways at 4 of 5 locations and setup site magic. Dead simple, reboots fine. Going to test that for now. Big PFSense fan here, bought 2 6100 max and 2 8200 max. this wasn't an easy choice but these ongoing reboot issues are not sustainable. Thank you stephen. If I roll back, ill msg back here for some help.
