      Hello everybody,

from what I can see, at this page there is no CE v2.8.1 ISO available for download, it still sticks to v2.8.0.

Reading the forum, I understand that there will not be any of such but I cannot understand the reasons behind this choice, if it is just a lack of time or something else.

I am not going to waste anybody's time explaining the obvious, so why it is extremely important to have an offline full installation image for any kind of operating system/appliance.

No one will care about this, but I am not going to install v2.8.1 until I can download a full ISO image, in order to be able to perform a fresh installation from scratch later on, in case it is needed (for D&R or for other reasons), without performing a two-steps installation that also needs Internet in order to succeed.

Basically, this message is a kind request to Netgate people to restore a proper full image of the latest version of their software, for the community to download.

      Thank you and best regards

Money. The answer to every question in life, if you dig down deep enough, is always 'money'. They're trying to make it harder for Chinese mini-pc vendors to preload pfSense on their hardware, which is against Netgate's terms. This has been a concern of theirs for many years and they're finally doing something about it. Unfortunately, their decision affects everyone and not just those ahole vendors. If you need an offline installer, pfSense is no longer a viable option. They aren't likely to change course, and continued moaning about the lack of an ISO will get the thread locked. You now have a decision of your own to make.

I second @KOM's answer as, best I can tell from my seat too, it appears to be exactly what's happened and why, and why we've 'passed the Rubicon' on this matter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you didn't hang onto a 2.7.2 installer, then there is no longer an offline install option available to you. (And even then you'll of course still need internet connectivity to bring the system fully up-to-date.)

@fr3ddie There is no ISO for 2.8.0 either, if you click the link it opens the Netgate Installer store "product" page. There are many threads for this question; it's very unlikely to happen.

The Installer has you configure WAN and then downloads the content to install.

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, CPU, and/or disk speed.

2.7.2 offline installer is still available here: https://atxfiles.netgate.com/mirror/downloads/

I'm running paid pfSense Plus on a non-Netgate hardware and there's no offline installer available for that either, still have to use "online" Netgate Installer if I want to do a clean install, so I could complain about it, but I'm not... :)
