      Main Objective

I want to use the file pfSense-CE-2.8.0-RELEASE-amd64.iso to do some experiments on GNS3.

      Question

How do I obtain this file?

      Previous Attempts

I've already tried the netgate installer, but it seems to only be able to install pfSense in a VM, or in a bare-metal machine, and that is not what I want, I think. I need the ISO, and I don't see an option for that.

@ivo.a.v.tavares the netinstaller is all that is available. Otherwise use pfSense 2.7.2.

In GNS3 you have to install the OS like with VM (it runs QEMU in the background). If you set up the GNS3 project with a connection to the internet you can use the installer like with other VMs.

Or you use one of the already existing template with an older ISO (older versions of pfSense: https://atxfiles.netgate.com/mirror/downloads/)

@patient0 Install 2.7.2, then update it to 2.8.0.
            Working fine here.

dead on arrival, nowhere to be found.

@mcury I'm not the one with the question ;) ... but the downside of the method of upgrading fom 2.7.2 is that the virtual machine/project gets bigger.

@patient0 I've tried installing pfSense-CE-2.8 but I got an error. The instalation was going well, until I got a bunch of warning about untrusted certificates.

@stephenw10 Thanks. When I rebooted it, it crashed magnificently... :D
Then I retried new installation for the 2.8.0 and not the 2.8.1 stable version. I have it now working. :)

For those trying to do someting similar:

                      1. The easiest way to give internet access to the pfSense node is through a NAT node.
                      2. To have Web GUI access, create a TAP interface on your Linux, set the link to state up. Give this interface a IP address in the same subnet as your LAN interface for pfSense. Then add a cloud node on your GNS3 workspace. Configure the cloud node to connect to the TAP interface. Now open a web browser on your LAN interface IP address and it should show you a authentication menu.

                        @stephenw10

I got the same error when installing 2.8.1.
I think 2.8.0 should be a given option to download and install.
Eventually I installed 2.7.2 and within the Web GUI upgraded to 2.8.1.
