Squid cache on another disk

  • I plan to have a pfsense rig with 2 hard disks, 1 for pfsense, another for squid cache (raptor)

first of all, does anybody find this necessary? or should I put pfsense on the raptor and cache along with it.

is it at all possible (guidance if possible) to setup pfsense in this manner?

  • search the forum, its been discussed previously.

Its supposed to increase speeds a good bit… especially if you have a really big and really fast newer hard drive. They say that having squid on the same Hard Drive that the OS is on makes it slower. Although, this also depends on how many users you will have on your system. If you have 100, then by all means get two 500GB Hard drives. If you only have 5 (like us), I think a faster sata hard drive would work, just you would not need a ton of space.

I've got a 160GB Hard drive I want to use, but I've not been able to get the bios to detect it, or pfsense to mount it, so I don't know if it will work.
