We have the Netgate 4200 as the router/firewallf or our network. We recently changed our ISP and I am having difficutly getting it to work on our network.

Previously we had a Comcast Business Fiber connection that used Static IP

The new ISP is a Quantum FIber connection. It uses a modem with model number C550XK

I was following a thread on Reddit for instructions with PFSense, but I've not had similar outcome

      https://www.reddit.com/r/centurylink/comments/15g9hup/comment/kggphki/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The idea seems to be getting the modem set to use transparent bridging. I'm able to set that up, but there seems to be talk about using a VLAN setting with a 201 Tag.

I'm currently using other VLAN's within my network, but not 201

I have set the WAN connection on PFSense to match the physical port that goes to the modem and also set the IPV4 and 6 configuration to DHCP.

When I plug directly into the modem with my laptop, I am able to get out to the world OK. So the connection is good.

Maybe this just comes down to my lack of undestanding with VLAN tagging.

I've tried having the setting on the modem where it says "Tagged-201" and I've also tried telling it untagged.

I have tried creating a VLAN201 and attaching it to the port that comes from the modem.

I'm assuming Quantum wants their traffic with that VLAN tag somehow.

But if its just transparent bridging, how do I set PFSsense to work with this?

Leaving the Vlan201 tagging on the modem on with assigning the port to the VLAN 201 and assigning that to the WAN has not worked for me.

      Thank you for any help

      Jason

I assume you didn't set a VLAN on the laptop directly? Which would seem to imply you don't need a tag. However some ISPs will provide a restricted service with the correct tag.

@stephenw10 Good Point. The laptop does not have VLAN tagging going on. I'll try playing with it again leaving tagging on for the modem and not turning it on for the router

          Thanks
