Finalizing setup (making it read-only?)

After I installed into harddisk and done modifications.

What should I to keep the files intact, in-case I got some power problems. I'm afraid of disk trashing the files.

Should I set the filesystem read-only? What will happen to the logs?

Or any hint on how to make a finalized disk installation that allows config modifications?
