Blinkled does not start on reboot
-
Hello
I have a small problem with blinkled package, i does works but dont want to start automatically if i reboot my box.
To start service i must do : Interfaces -> Assign Leds -> SaveIs it normal ?
Thanks.
-
That isn't normal, but it did start on reboot the last time I tried it.
I'll have a look as soon as I can get my 1.2.3 ALIX test box online, it's sitting on my desk at the moment.
-
Just tried this again, and blinkled starts on reboot for me.
I'm using 1.2.3-RELEASE NanoBSD
However, blinkled is the only package I have installed on this image.
What shows up under Status > Services when it isn't running? You should be able to control the service from there.
-
i'm using pfSense-1.2.3-RELEASE-LiveCD-Installer.iso (nanobsd have problem with my squidguard blacklist so i switched to livecd…)
i will export my config and reinstall pfsense (maybe something was broken when i tested other packages that i removed after)
will update in a bit :) -
That could be part of it. I don't think I've ever tested blinkled on a full install. I don't have any storage media for an ALIX that I'd be willing to try a full install upon at the moment.
Let me know what you find.

ok here's a report:
- reinstalled pfsense
- imported config
- reboot (because of imported config) then auto installation of packages (see signature)
- not everything worked so i add to reinstall manually everything (also, the first time i was able to see TWO blinkled service in webgui)
- so i removed blinked then reinstalled
- now i have only ONE blinked service but still have problem to start on boot
webgui for blinkled : Stopped (i still have to use Interfaces -> Assign Leds -> Save)
here's a log when my alix boot

Hmm, weird.
There was someone the other day that had multiple squid <service>declarations in their config and no idea how that happened.
You may need to edit the package info out of your config before you restore it next time you try this test.
Or at least edit out the blinkled service.
I wish I could reproduce some of these things, it's very hard to fix an issue if I'm just guessing at what might possibly cause it…</service>
-
i agree, well if you need other logs let me know
multiple service could be a "bug" while restoring configuration + packages but that's another problem then ;D
-
If you have a copy of the config that breaks when you restore it, it might be helpful if I had a copy of the file. With any passwords and such removed, of course.
If that sounds reasonable, you could mail it to me, jimp (a) pfsense.org (adjust as needed, trying to keep it away from trolling spambots :) )
-
ok, sent
~~btw, i noticed a few things in my configuration.xml
some services that i tested THEN removed are still configured in my configuration.xml (is it normal ? ;p)~~ <-yes this is normal (edited if someone wants to know in future 8))
exemple of services that i tested and removed before exporting my supposed "CLEAN" install configuration : HAVP, PHPSYSINFO -
That is normal, the configuration is kept in case you want to reinstall a package later, so the settings are retained.
-
Looked at your config and I noticed already that it has multiple <service>entries for squid and squidguard. but other than that nothing jumps out at me as being broken. That's just after a quick glance though, if I can find time later I might try to restore that in a VM and see what happens.</service>

Blinkled doesn't work for me too in an alix install! It wont start on boot nor by starting the service manually. (Starting via Service-page and Assign Leds don't work)
I have a full install on the alix-box. -
Igor, I'd start a new thread for that since it's not related to this old topic.
