WAN DHCP Discover
-
Some ISP's DHCP, such as Verizon FiOS, are pretty finicky when it comes to switching between routers. Sometimes even releasing the lease does not suffice and one has to wait up to 2 hours or call support before being able to change routers.
Attached are sniffer traces of the DHCP request for both the Actiontec MI424-WR provided by Verizon FiOS and pfSense (remove the txt extension.)
It appears the Verizon FiOS Actiontec includes additional items in the request. Such as Vendor Class Identifier, and Domain Name, etc. and also maintains character case.
If pfSense were to provide ability to include these addition items in the DHCP discover request perhaps it would make switching between them easier.
As for maintaining case. Yes I know DHCP, DNS etc are not case sensitive, but that is no reason not to maintain case.
