      Hi Everybody, I recently installed Pfsense on a machine with 2 wired nics and a wireless nic. During the set up I didn't assign the wireless nic so it is currently unrecognized in pfsense. Can I now assign the nic as a OPT1 interface so I can set it up as an access point WITHOUT re-doing the entire install again? I know there is an option under "interfaces" to "assign" but will that require me to re-assign each nic or can I just choose the wireless one without re-doing the other 2? Thanks.

        Yes, assuming your wireless NIC is a supported wireless NIC.

          Yes it is, thank you. I confirmed it was a compatible card before ordering and during the initial setup it was listed as an available MAC address. I will try assigning it tonight.

            In the assign interfaces page, click the + icon to get a new interface option for assigning the card.

              Thanks everybody. I tried it and it caused a endless reboot/crash/reboot/crash, etc, etc. I had to physically remove the card to stop the loop. I guess the card/motherboard/pfsense didn't work out too well.

                Thats unusual for an allegedly supported wireless card.

                What version of pfSense? What card? What was the pfsense device name of the wireless NIC?

                  Newest version of Pfsense (1.2.3) and the card was one that was recommend on another post (Linksys WMP54G Wireless PCI Adapter 54MBPS 802.11G).

                  I must point out that my motherboard has had some compatibility problems in the past (Winfast NF4 939 board).

                    @Varroa:

                    I suspect you might not have searched sufficiently extensively. For example, did you notice http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,21286.0.html or http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,16876.0.html or http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,17630.0.html

                    I've had a couple of Wireless USB NICs with ralink chipsets work fine, but the negative reports on the ralink PCI devices would keep me away from them, unless I was prepared to debug the driver. Atheros based PCI cards have had good reports but some contributors to the forums have had trouble with them on pfSense 1.2.3 RELEASE. (1.2.3 RELEASE seems to work fine with my Atheros based card.)

                    All this makes it difficult to make a recommendation other than to lodge a problem report with FreeBSD or try one of the 2.0 snapshot builds and see if you better results with your card.

                      Thanks for the update. I am not too worried about it. I have a Dlink DIR-655 plugged into a switch as my AP right now. The card was only going to be used as a guest zone. I have a Dlink USB 802.11G usb dongle I could also try but I am not in any hurray. Thanks again for the help!
