1st time upgrade from rc2 to rc3
-
i've installed the upgrades but a problem arose, the clients can no longer surf the internet or ping anything outside our network, i can ping yahoo or google from the console of pfsense as well as from the webgui of pfsense on the client side. what went wrong? do i need to tweak something?

There are no special settings needed. All my updates from pre-RC3 to RC3 to RC3a to RC3b went fine.

too bad for me :( i shouldn't have upgraded. anyways good thing that i still have my old m0n0 box so there's no disruption for my LAN clients, i'd like pfsense very much i hope i could it working again soon :-[

Copy your config.xml from the pfsense to a floppy disk (patch /conf/config.xml) and boot your machine from the RC3 livecd with the floppy in the drive. If it does work this way just run option 99 to do a fresh install from the livecd. The config from the floppy will be moved over to the hdd too.

Not to keep beating a dead horse but we really do not recommend using floppy drives for configuration storage.
A much better solution is a usb keychain drive, etc.
Apple stopped using floppies for a reason.

I don't recommend running this for a long time, it's just one bootup to see if a fresh rc3 doesn't show the error. You can of course do the temp testrun with a usb-stick too.

i did backed up the xml config both on my client pc and my usb key however the box only supports a floppy device coz it's an old compaq deskpro pentium 266MMX pc, i'll try your recommendations and post back the results.

Basically yes, however there is a small update that you should apply after going to RC3a. You'll find it in the same folder like the full updatefile on the mirrors.
Ahhh… what is in the RC3a update? I updated to RC3 like him and policy based routing got all screwed up. Adding the RC3a patch fixed it.
That's probably important enough to put in the sticky and/or homepage - ppl need to know there are two updates to do.
I had the same problem. Ended up having to completely re-do my firewall/outgoing NAT settings. Something must have gotten screwed up in the upgrade process.

i installed from scratch coz the upgrade won't work for me, however i've experienced some strange behavior regarding pfsense-rc3. i installed it three times and here are the scenarios:
install no.1
installed directly to disk without configuring when running on live cd coz this was the same procedure when i had pfsense-rc2 running, however when it was installed i can't browse anything even though i've set just the LAN interface, so i gave up.install no.2
before installing to hard drive, i configured the LAN and WAN interfaces, tried surfing using the live cd and it went fine, then i installed it to the hard drive then proceeded to apply the six updates in the updates page(full,a,b,c,d,e) and tested the connection then i went to restore the working configuration, after doing this i received errors in the logs page, i gave up coz i can't get any connection to the internet whatsoever.install no.3
i repeated the same procedure as in install no.2 but without installing the old configuration, made up the rules again one by one but again i hit a snag :( although i can browse the internet but i can't see my dmz subnet nor i can ping the internet from the dmz subnet, i'm using brand new interfaces that was working before these upgrades. i'm totally clueless as to the reason this happened. -
Since RC3 update I must reboot the fireall every 3 days.
No bridged network from OPT1How can I see extended logs or debug ?
