PPPOE - Cannot connect and always down
-
Hi everybody,
I've search the forums but couldn't find answers. If mods feels this topic should be moved or else please don't hesitate.
Ok, my problem. First, my config. I'm pretty new to pfsense and at first I'm testing it in a lab before going to production. I use a GX270 Dell computer with an onboard ethernet labeled by pfsense as em0. I also installed a Realtek chipset based ethernet PCI card, which is labeled rl0. I use PfSense 1.2.3 which is installed on the hard drive.
My config is quite simple: Speedstream 6520 in bridge mode (aDSL) -> rl0 (PPPoE mode) -> em0 (192.168.1.1) -> workstation (Win 7) (192.168.1.2)
I have setup the aDSL modem's username and password correctly, since I can use the modem directly with my workstation.
In Pfsense's logs there is no indication of pppoe events (Web interface: Status/system logs). When I go to Status/interfaces, WAN shows status UP, PPPoE Down. When I click on Connect, it stays on "Down".
I tried applying this solution: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,7248.msg41434.html#msg41434 as proposed by Scott but no luck.
I tried 1.2.3 RC1, 1.2.2, 2.0 Beta, all with the same result: PPPoE won't connect.
I'm trying to avoid using the Speedstream as a router…
Is there any hints someone could suggests?
EDIT: I checked the following thread: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,20228.msg103957.html#msg103957
Now I'm able to see the logs:

If your modem has your name and password in it, then it is doing PPPoE for you, and pfSense should just use DHCP on WAN.
If it's a half bridge, you may be better off doing a factory reset on the modem, which should make it act like a bridge, and then setting pfSense up for PPPoE.
