Hi. I am trying to install 1.2.3 with live cd. but every time i am seeing this error code "" Read_BIg Media Error asc=8X18"

Though its continue to rest of installation without any problem. But at the end when pfsense reboot then nothing come up unless this F1: Boot FreeBSD
                                                :/

Thats it. I have tried many times it remains this.

Even I tried with alpha version 2.0 latest also. But same problem.

Then I change my Hard Disk. I mean IDE . it install and run. But that error also i saw"" Read_BIg Media Error asc=8X18"

"pfsense current version is 1.2.3 is running with that error"

Now my question is why that error is showing every time if i try to use sata or IDe.

Though i can use with IDE but not with sata.

So please help me to fix this problem. Other wise i know i will face the problem sooner or later….

My configuration is Core due 2.20 processor.

      Ram 3GB ddr2 667

      Hard Disk sata(hitachi) 160 and IDE 80 GB(kingstone)

      CDROM IDE

      Graphic Card sapphire x1550 1g hm pci-e 256m ddr2

      motherboard - P5LD2-X/1333 asus.

I hope my big bros can help me to solve this problem. I will great full. Thank you very much

That media error is normal when booting a CD-ROM and likely has nothing to do with your actual problem.

There are many suggestions on this page for what to do if you cannot boot from your hard drive:

everytime it wont boot and I get a lot of those errors I replace the cd drive and it works, i may still get the media error, but it boots/installs no problem

That means that for whatever reason, it can't see your HDD controller to boot from.

Usually you can get around this by changing a BIOS option for your SATA controller to "Legacy" or "IDE" or try them all.

it can also mean that you changed its position in the drive line up, I had this problem when changing it from slave to master (IDE), or sometimes changing sata ports, also when removing the cd drive that was on the same IDE channel.

Type "?" as suggested in the message to see the valid boot devices and post the result here.

sorry for late respond. actually i already install PFsense on 80 gb IDe hard disk. When i had all those problem.

Another information. I am using pfsense for quit a time. But i never able to install on sata hard disk.

I hope BSD developer should do something about this sector.

Right now i am using my Pfsense on my Net cafe. which has 22 workstation.

And i am very much glad that pfsense developer made such a product with enterprise label feature. Right now we are using pfsense 4 different net cafe. and all are running very smoothly.

I have a question about Squid. and i will ask it on package section.

                          take care and ba bye
