Extra serial port on Embedded

There is a need to have extra serial port. Trying to access it using cu utility.
Hardware:asus tx97-l + p-166 + 128 mb + cf 128 mb + noname ISA multicard 2xcom 1lpt 1game + 2x ISA net card NE2000
pfSense-1.2.2 embedded installed: there is transmit - device properly reacts to my typings in cu but no echo back means no receive at this port.
pfSense-1.2.3 live CD: everything works properly.
What is the difference between embedded and live could cause here?
Any thoughts please?

1.2.2 was based on FreeBSD 7.0, and 1.2.3 is based on FreeBSD 7.2

There could be any number of changes along the way that let it work.

You'd be better off starting with a 1.2.3 NanoBSD if you need embedded.
