      Hi there

      i run pfsense on a Core2Duo 1,86GHz 2GB Ram with Harddrive 4 Gigabit Nics
I have Trafic Shaper enabled and run OpnVPN.
      Not much rules

It is a 20Mbit Fibre line and ~ 10 Users behind the pfsense.

Is a Proxy really needed ?

What are the pros and the cons of using a proxy ?

      Microsoft gives you "Windows"
Opensource gives you the whole house

Probably not necessary for that small a number.  The only real advantage I can think of is that you can hook havp into squid and transparently do virus scanning on inbound html.

          Thanks

just uninstalled Squid and Internet is much faster…
Even while my Notes Server is replicating huge databases...

          Much more responsive !

Virusscanning is not an issue, since we have "almost" 100% Linux / Freebsd  8)

If you're seeing this kind of drastic difference in speed even though you had a plenty powerful firewall, the problem was likely in the nmbclusters settings in the loader.conf  Search the forums and check out how to optimize this file.

I have those settings already changed…
Anyway, no more proxy on the firewall
