Just a note for people have same problem.

I'm using 4GB embedded nanobsd image on my atom n270 board, suffering the php handle leaking problem.
After download the 4GB upgrade image which missing for few days, I found I cannot upgrade firmware from web interface.

I found dmesg show a message something like insufficient size on /var, which is malloc sized 60MB.

Finally, I modify the /etc/rc.embedded and change the line varsize="60m" to varsize="160m", then I can upgrade my box to latest firmware.

I've seen this issue, too.  I had noticed that I can successfully upgrade from a 1.2.3 slice, however.  Either it has this set differently or the upgrade is not handled the same way.
