      why am i getting this in the ipsec log on a new 1.2.3 box? i have definately defined a config:
      racoon: ERROR: couldn't find configuration.

        Did the config get written out in /var/etc ?
        If not, that would be the problem… Now why that didn't happen, that's a whole other question. Might take some more investigation. I've never seen that happen on 1.2.x, but I have on 2.0 when the WAN wasn't up when racoon started. That didn't happen on 1.2.x though that I'm aware of.

          there is a default looking racoon.conf there but my tunnel config is not being written.

            Is this a full install or nano? If it's nano, did you write out the image or did it come on a CF preinstalled?

              this is full. i changed the remote site from hostname to ip and made sure the wan was up and it wrote the config to file now.

                I had this problem a few times after upgrades:

                during the last upgrade to 1.2.3 Release, it was fine, no problem.

                If i remember, all i needed to do was go into my configuration and save it again.
