Mar 8 snapshot – PPPoE can't connect

  • After upgrading to Mar 8 21:58:08 EST 2010 snapshot, the boot up completed successfully, but all PPPoE connections are lost.

The following messages appear on console:

    Starting OpenNTP time client...done
Setting up microcode and tx/rx offloading...ifconfig: interface pppoe1 does not exist
ifconfig: interface pppoe2 does not exist
ifconfig: interface pppoe3 does not exist
    done.

  • Do you have on your logs problems connecting to pppoe?!
I switched it to mpd5 after testing and it seemed quite ok in testing.

  • exact same here for me on the pfSense-2.0-BETA1-1g-20100309-0142-nanobsd-upgrade.img.gz as well as the traffic shaper but for that shaper issue there is a fix committed but isnt on the 9th march nanobsd update image so traffic shaper will be solved in newer snapshots but i hope this pppoe also gets fixed.

  • Please give me the error from mpd logs

  • plz wait till some snapshot is generated after the 9th so i can update to that which doesnt have the traffic shaper problem so i can then use that and can even provide the log, mayb some1 else can send in the log if they got it active on their box

  • I somehow managed to miss this part when switching to mpd5 on mainline.
    https://rcs.pfsense.org/projects/pfsense/repos/mainline/commits/18315b0d39d3438a531652cfb71f17560446eb48

Either wait new snapshots or add this manually.

  • Rebel Alliance Developer Netgate

I can confirm it is working again with that fix.

  • even with the latest snapshot im not able to connect and 2 things seem wierd which never used to be like this beofore, firstly the part in the console i dont have password protect enabled then y does it endup in login and password when bootup is complete?

  • i tried witht he patch but still no luck, unplugging the WAN cable and replugging gives one extra line in log that says file not found so mayb that can help solve this issue

xbipin you are on wrong sources.
You are trying to start mpd4 which would not start with the config that is now.
You need to start mpd5 not sure why it tries to start mpd4 for you!?

when upgrading from 4th march to 13th march snapshot. With the newest snapshot of 15th march pppoe is still not working. I don't know the excat error log but I will provide it later.

  • I'm getting the same issue here:

I now that mine is 2.0Beta1 from march, 11 because is the file that I downloaded, there is a way to look at some file or in the web to find it?

    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

  • @ermal:

Can you please try to configure a ng_tee(4) node through ngctl and see if everything is ok?!

sir, im the windows guy so ull have to specify the exact commands to run or else i have no clue how to do what u said.

bytheway, i tried doing a clean install but as soon as the WAN interface config is created for pppoe, then the mpd->file or directory not found error starts flooding the system log non stop

  • what i think is the problem starts when creating the ng0 coz in mpd4 in console it used to say vr1 so the solution might be somewhere there when creating the node.
–----- plz ignore if the above text makes no sense. ---------------

  • Rebel Alliance Developer Netgate

After seeing Ermal's ng_tee comment, I checked out the kernel config file. It looks like the NanoBSD kernels were missing a few netgraph options that the full install had.

I committed the changes for the kernels and if all goes well, the next NanoBSD image that comes out after this post should work.

  • I'm having the same issue but with the LiveCD installation.

  • im on the 18th march nanobsd and finally PPPoE seems to WORK perfectly fine, so the last patch by Jimp got it all up.

    Thanks guys.
