Can't connect to ftp

I've got a strange problem with pfsense rc3

I have my ftp up and running fine, people can connect and all is well :)

BUT I can't connect to any ftp.

the only rules I have re ftp are these :

Proto  Source  Port  Destination            Port  Gateway  Description
TCP  *              *  192.168.1.100  21 (FTP)    *              NAT   
TCP      *             * 192.168.1.100       4785 - 4790 *           NAT FTP Passive

Which direct incoming traffic to my FTP server.

What do I need to do so I can connect to ftp servers?
