      Hello,

      as newbie have some quiestions.

      1. what is difference between embedded image version and livecd install with embedded kernel? Or is it the same?
      2. are these embeded versions SMP (multi CPU)?
      3. if I use CF card with CF/IDE convertor, will this combination work with both embedded versions?
      4. Does anybody have idea what hw should I use for firewalling between 4x Gb ports?

A LOT of horsepower if you want to firewall traffic of small packets at line rate between 4 GigE interfaces. You would be better off using a switch and VLANs, if possible, to reduce your traffic through the firewall. If one of you interfaces is to a 10Mbps internet connection and most of your traffic is with the internet (very little between the systems downstream of the internet connection) then a much more modest system with be sufficient.  You'll need to give more details of what you want to do if you want a more specific suggestion.

The embedded kernel doesn't have video and keyboard support, it used a serial connection.

The embedded image, uses the embedded kernel, but also all the pfSense scripts are aware that they are running on an embedded system, and so limit the writes that they do to disk, and keep data in memory instead.

          Cheers.

            Hello,

            more details for throughput:

1x Gb port connected to internet - 100 Mbps conenctivity
1x Gb port to DMZ (dns, email …)
2x Gb port with VLANs connected to internal LAN
            about 300 users

Does anybody have expiriences with similar topology?

            thx
