Intel BG2200 and ipw2200-ap driver with pfSense 2.0
-
I have been using pfSense 1.2.x for some time now and I like it very much.
Recently I got a BG2200 wifi card from an old notebook, so i set up an alix board with pfSense 2.0 Beta1.
The card is correctly detected but it doesn't work as an access point. I have read in some places that hostap mode is not supported with this card, but I have also found this project:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipw2200-ap/that should add hostap support to the driver.
Is there a canche that it will be included in future versions of pfSense?
Thank you,

Given that's a driver for Linux and we use FreeBSD, no. Usually lacking hostap is because the hardware itself lacks hostap, looks like that's possibly not the case for this particular card, so maybe the FreeBSD driver will get a similar change in the future (though looking at the comments on the aforementioned project's forum, it doesn't actually appear to work).

Thank you for your reply.
I know very well that pfSense is based on FreeBSD. I was just supposing that FreeBSD drivers for that card derived from Linux ones. Maybe the right place to ask was a FreeBSD forum and not a pfSense one.
BTW gived that, as you point out, the linux drivers seem not to work i suppose i have to find another wifi card to use as an access point.Regards,
Francesco
