Load Balance and shaping achievable with two pfSense?
-
Hello everyone!
I have two embedded boxes with pfSense 1.2.2 installed. I have two ADSL lines and IP-telephony. What I want to do is have both load balance/failover and traffic shaping with IP-telephony in priority. pfSense 2.0 will be installed as soon as it goes stable, but until then, can we put the two pfSense boxes in series and let the first one do the traffic shaping and the second do the load balancing? Is this known to conflict with IP-telephony in any way? Also I'm interested to know what actualy happens if you turn on load balancing and traffic shaping on the same pfSense 1.2.2 box. I know this does "not work", but what will happen if I do?
Actualy I already did try, and the balancing works, but I'm not sure about the shaping :)I'm really looking forward to pfSense 2.0, it looks awesome by the specifications!

The shaping might work on WAN, but not on OPT WAN, and your total download speed would be limited to the bandwidth given for WAN.
I've heard of people doing shaping that way with a shaper box behind an LB box, but you should have NAT completely disabled on the shaper box.
How well it works, I'm not sure.
