Problem with 2 pfSenses with FailOver solution.
-
Hi everybody, i'm a new user in this forum, since I have just begun to manage pfSense in my work.
I'm trying to have a failover solution with 2 pfSenses in VirtualBox as a testing ground, with a ubuntu client having internet access through pfsenses, but i don't need the Load Balance capability. I'm following this howtos:
http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Configuring_pfSense_Hardware_Redundancy_(CARP)
http://www.pfsense.org/mirror.php?section=tutorials/carp/carp-cluster-new.htmI'm using the latest version, so, 2nd tutorial is a little bit obsolete, but a lot more comprehensible.
I've tried both of them, but when I set the LAN and the WAN Virtual ips, Master pfSense webgui slows down so much that i can't work. i have pinged an external site, and the result is a little bit strange:
First of all, packets 1,3,5,7,9,11 (odd numbers)… reached its destination, others not.
Later, packets 14,16,18,20,22 (pair numbers)... reached its destination, others not.Result: 50% Packet loss.
Anybody have an idea?
Many thanks 4 u all!
PD: Sorry but my english level isn't great...

There is another thread out there for this same issue on VirtualBox. It seems specific to that setup somehow.
Though the last time I setup a CARP cluster on VirtualBox I could not replicate this issue.

yeah, i've read some of them (they have different hardware/software configuration, but i'm reading more of them) but i haven't found a clue about what could be the solution.
Thanks!
EDIT: i has just used the "search" box with "virtual box redundancy", "virtual box failover", "virtual box fail over", and i've found nothing (the most appropiated keyword "virtualbox failover" showed only this topic) Could you tell me where can I find that post you've said? :)

When you search, it only searches the board you are on, unless you click to make sure you're looking at the main screen of the forum when you do the search.
Here is the other thread:

Many thanks for the reply Jimp, but i still have no clue, is it a VirtualBox problem? In any case, there's no solution at that topic… (I would like to know if it's VBox problem, if so, i'll change my virtualization app to VMWare for the testings)
So many thanks!

There have only been reports of that issue on VirtualBox, nowhere else.

Ok, many thanks! i'll install VMWare and i'll try with it.
