Issues with 20100604-1650

  • Hi,

has anyone else experienced sudden non responsiveness with this build?

I'm running pfsense on an ibm xseries 345. 2 onboard intel gbit nics and 2 pci-x intel dual gbit cards.
Of course I can't say for sure that it's NOT a hardware problem, but previous builds didn't have that problem on this machine..

The installer worked fine, except it didn't detect all the links when using auto detection. Only the first one was detected. All the nics are intel gigabit server cards via em drivers. This first link it detected resides on the onboard dual intel adapter.. the second port wasn't detected though.
I sorted them out manually by checking ifconfig, which correctly showed their status as up/down.

I set up all the wan links, one lan interface and a gateway group for load balancing. Then I enabled sshd, set rules on 2 wan interfaces and the lan if to allow connections to my previously specified ssh and web interface ports.

I didn't use any other features except I added a route through another router accessible over pfsense's lan if to allow pfsense to see the "real" lan subnet. Of course I also added an allow rule on the lan if to allow connections from my lan subnet behind this router.

Everything worked fine for about 30 Minutes. The (at that time) unused/unpopulated LAN network had access to the net and I was able to reach the webinterface from lan and my remote machine connecting to the either wan ip.

But suddenly everything stopped.. got timeouts connecting to the webinterface from either side (lan/wan) and traffic stopped.
I was able to reach the server through ssh, but that was REALLY slow.. it took 5 minutes to connect from the lan side.

After a reset everything worked again for another 30 minutes and so on.
I checked the system log but couldn't find any errors. Also cpu utilization was below 4% everytime I checked..

I didn't have these problems with any previous builds on the same machine..

    Did anyone experience similar issues?

Is there something I could do to check what might be causing this? System logs are cleared each time the server starts up again.. is there any place where to look for previous logs?

Edit: forgot that I enabled PowerD.. will disable it and try again

Thank you VERY much and thank you for all the great, hard work!

    Max

Enable remote syslog server in /diag_logs_settings.php. Of course you will have to have a syslog server set up to receive the logs.

  • Thanks for your help!
