PFsense Beta how is it?

Hello.
I'm using PFsense 1.2.3 at 3 different locations and am just wondering about using PFsense 2. I can see that there have been many improvements, but what has the experience been for users who are able to use it in a production type environment today?

My experience has been that overall, it's stable (no crashing on my intel nics and intel processors). There are some snapshots that have issues. Some features are in flux. Some packages work, some don't. From my perspective, I'd test a snapshot on a VM setup and if the features you need work, stick with that snapshot.

I'm using nanobsd from June 10 on a net5501 and totally stable. mlppp, vlans, firewall all work, traffic shaper might work but we don't have any evidence to suggest that anybody has figured out how to use it.
As previous poster said, some of the more recent snapshots may have issues.

thanks for the updates. Pfsense sounds like it's going to be solid as a rock when released as stable. The thing I'm fearing though is that when beautiful things like this are released, there is always some underlying power that does not want such advancements freely available that provides such benefits to everyone.

It's open source. You'll get used to it.

In my experience with running it on Vmware Vsphere and on standalone servers I've had issues where the config has gotten corrupted after a powerfailure, hence I have moved back to 1.2.3 for my production enviroments (although snapshoting in vmware did alliviate this when I was running it there).

I'd be interested to know exactly when this happened. Some changes were made in the last couple months to help protect against that.

I have made traffic shaper worked on a snapshot a while ago, using PRIQ. It was admittedly very flaky (not the traffic shaping itself, which is solid, but the UI to configure it). I have it working also on a relatively newer snapshot (15th of June I think) also using PRIQ.

Yeah, I managed to get through the wizard with a newer build. It helps get the queues set up, which was the hardest thing for me in my stumblings. I've since managed to classify some traffic through a lot of trial and error. I'd like to do some documenting, as I find the built-in clues quite confusing, but I don't know that anything I write would be too useful, as I don't even know why I have to use the options I use. Anything I write at this point would be a step-by-step without any background concept.
