      Hi to all,

I setup 1.2.3-RELEASE built on Sun Dec 6 23:21:36 EST 2009. My problem are when I use pfsense as a router then ping www.google.com. My ping latency are high about 200ms to 400ms. But when I dont use pfsense and I use only linksys router. My ping latency on www.google.com are about 40ms. Anyone experience on this problem. Thanks

What type of hardware do you run it on? How did you setup pfsense (i.e. only with firewall/NAT rules, or with traffic shaping, etc.)? Things that come to my mind:

        • NIC hardware, driver, or media link type/options (autosensing) issue

        • Underpowered or misconfigured hardware

        • Misconfigured traffic shaper

FWIW, this is definitely not standard behaviour with pfSense of course.

I setup pfsense as a firewall/NAT, 2 WAN, 3 VLAN, 1 LAN and captive portal.

I use Asus P5Q SE2 Motherboard, Intel Dual Core 2.0Ghz, Kingston 2GB Memory, 3 Intel fxp 10/100mbps NIC and Asus built-in broadcom nic.

          Thanks for the reply.

Ok, so no reason to believe it's underpowered hardware or wrong traffic shaper configuration then. Did you look at Status -> Interfaces, in/out errors and collisions in particular that might reveal misconfiguration of an ethernet link? Also start by doing a ping to the LAN IP address of pfSense, note the response times and then move further to for example the default gateway of the WAN interface, to see where exactly the slow RTT is coming from.
