      Hi.

I'm studying about creating a failover cluster betweekn two pfSense systems and I read this tutorial http://pfsense.basis06.com/download/tutorials/carp/carp-cluster-new.htm.
This tutorial shows that the OPT1 interface is used to sync the two pfSense systems, but I should use it for WAN2 network (the second WAN connection in failover and with some connections routed on it).

The problem is that I have only 3 interfaces on the two pfSense systems, can I sync them using the LAN interface and not the OPT1 one?

      Thank you very much!
      Bye.

You can sync on LAN, but it's not ideal.

There are security issues with doing state sync on LAN, and it can consume a significant amount of bandwidth depending on the rate at which states are added/removed.
