I upgraded a system on Friday that was running a snapshot from late May 2010, and after reboot, igb interfaces kept losing their DHCP ip addresses, there were watchdog messages indicating that igb0 and igb1 were frequently reset, arpresolve errors indicating problems of resolving the DHCP gateway addresses, etc. Things were quite puzzling to figure out. I then saw by accident that I had had device-polling enabled, and just gave it a shot to disable that. And, magically, the system quieted down, DHCP and gre tunnels worked fine again.

This is probably a bug in the used FreeBSD kernel:
    FreeBSD pfsense.virtualtec.office 8.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE #1: Fri Jul 30 02:00:11 EDT 2010    sullrich@FreeBSD_8.0_pfSense_2.0-snaps.pfsense.org:/usr/obj.pfSense/usr/pfSensesrc/src/sys/pfSense_SMP.8  i386

Just wanted to give a heads up to other people who might suddenly face the same problem.

    Cheers,
    Markus
