      Posted this some time ago but never heard anything back and I haven't figured it out for myself so I'm re-posting.

      Some how i no longer have a login menu when i rebooted pfsense from the console. all i get now is a screen saying "boottup complete" and there doesn't appear to be a way to get to the shell, have you guys seen this? all other functionality of the firewall works fine i'm just not getting the normal menu or a shell. i do in-fact get the menu if i ssh into the firewall.

      thanks

        Did you enable the serial console under advanced options?

          Negative, it is not enabled. This is the weirdest thing.. I run 10 other pfsense firewalls and have never seen this..

            When you ssh to the firewall, are you using the root or the admin account?

            If you enable the serial console, save, then disable, and save, then reboot, does it make a difference?

              I ssh in to pfsense box with uname root.

              If you enable the serial console, save, then disable, and save, then reboot, does it make a difference?

              Let me give that a shot… I'll report back. Thanks.

                @phospher:

                I ssh in to pfsense box with uname root.

                Try it with the admin account, too, then - that is what the console uses to autologin (if I recall correctly)

                  Just logged in via ssh to the firewall with the admin account and the menu pops up as expected..

                    Actually, I think the console logs in as root.

                      Nope, just tried it no go.

                      The last 2 lines read:

                      appending output to nohup.out
                      Bootup complete.
